DJ Fat Tony, who performed at Brooklyn Peltz Beckham’s wedding to Nicola Peltz Beckham, has given his account of what he believes took place during the couple’s first dance, following claims by the 26-year-old that his mother, Victoria Beckham, had “hijacked” the moment and left him feeling “humiliated.”
On Tuesday, Brooklyn shared a lengthy six-page Instagram post in which he criticised both of his parents and confirmed several rumours about their strained relationship, after speculations among fans reached an all-time high. Brooklyn said several noteworthy things, including that he did “not want to reconcile with [his] family,” before claiming that he had been “controlled by [his] parents for most of [his] life.” He also attempted to shut down what he called the “backwards” narrative that his wife controls him, stating:
“My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped… Since the moment I started standing up for myself with my family, l’ve received endless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, that were sent to the press on their orders.”
In the now-infamous story post, Brooklyn made several allegations about his mother Victoria in particular, claiming the 51-year-old former Spice Girl turned fashion designer had “cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress” and that she had even “went so far as to call [him] ‘evil’” because he and Nicola had decided “to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Nanny at [their wedding] table.”
Undoubtedly, the section of Brooklyn’s post that caused the most public stir — and has since resulted in the creation of hundreds of memes — was his version of how the first dance went at his 2022 Palm Beach wedding. Brooklyn, whose career now focuses on posting online cooking videos and promoting his organic hot sauce Cloud 23, stated:
“My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song. In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
On Friday, DJ Fat Tony, who has served as the Beckham family DJ at several of their luxurious parties, became the first person from inside the walls to shed some light on what happened that day. Speaking on This Morning, Tony dispelled many comical interpretations of that “inappropriate” dance, stating there was “no slut-dropping” and “no Spice Girl action,” adding that it was the timing that made it “inappropriate,” not the dance moves themselves.
Describing his version of events, Tony said: “So basically Marc Anthony was performing on stage. He then called Brooklyn onto the stage…Brooklyn went onto the stage, where the next minute, everyone was expecting it to be Nicola to go up and do the first dance. And then Marc Anthony asks the most beautiful woman in the room to come to the stage. And then he says, Victoria, come to the stage."
“So Victoria is by the stage, she goes onto the stage. And of course, at that point, Brooklyn’s suddenly, literally devastated because he thought he was going to do his first dance with his wife. Then Nicola leaves the room crying her eyes out. Brooklyn’s stuck there on stage. They do this dance and Marc Anthony’s like, ‘Go put your hands on your mother’s hips.’ And it was a Latin, you know, it’s a Latin thing. And the whole situation was really awkward for everyone in the room.”
Tony went on to describe the Beckhams as a “very dancy, close-knit family.” However, despite clarifying that Victoria did not, in fact, dutty-wine on her son, Tony maintained a lot of compassion for Brooklyn throughout the interview, saying: “This is all about how Brooklyn feels. If he felt it was inappropriate and awkward, then it was inappropriate.”
Tony also DJ’d at the brunch held the day after the wedding ceremony during their opulent three-day, multi-million-pound celebration. The Peltz-Beckham wedding reportedly cost nearly £3 million, far eclipsing the £750,000 1999 wedding of David and Victoria, which featured a four-month-old Brooklyn as ringbearer.
Tony described the brunch the next day as “the most awkward part of it all.” He explained that this was when everything that had happened on the wedding night was “discussed among all the guests the next morning.” He continued:
“Everyone was talking about how sad that part of it was,” the next day, but added, “I think that too much is being read into it.”
On Tuesday, Sir David Beckham made his first public appearance after his son’s post and made a rare decision to allude to the matter while still not addressing it directly. He said: “I’ve tried to do the same with my children to educate them. They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn… So that’s what I try to teach my kids. But you know, you have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well.”
