A British based non league goalkeeper is set to become the next king of the Tooro people in Uganda.

George Kamurasi, 36, has been selected to succeed his late cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, after being chosen by a committee following the monarch's death.

Known as “Big G”, Kamurasi currently captains SE Dons in the Southern Counties East League Premier Division in southeast London.

That means the 36 year old is currently balancing life as a goalkeeper in the ninth tier of English football with his upcoming role as a traditional king in Uganda.

Kamurasi is a British national and has become known at SE Dons for his commanding presence between the posts and his passionate leadership.

Footage from the club has shown the goalkeeper delivering fiery team talks to his teammates, giving an insight into the personality that has made him a prominent figure within the squad.

His selection follows the death of King Oyo, who died aged 34 while receiving treatment for cancer.

The death of the monarch has placed the Tooro Kingdom into a period of transition, with Kamurasi now chosen to take on the role previously held by his cousin.

The Tooro Kingdom is one of Uganda's traditional kingdoms and represents the Tooro people, with its king holding an important cultural and symbolic position.
