Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, has reportedly sent his parents a legal notice, warning them to only contact him through lawyers and not to tag him on social media.
News of the “desist” letter comes after nearly a year of reports of a rift in the Beckham family, which has seen Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham break away from his parents and three siblings. The 26-year-old jack of many trades reportedly sent his parents the notice in the summer of last year after family tensions came to a head.
Following the notice, pop star turned fashion designer Victoria allegedly liked one of Brooklyn’s posts in breach of his letter. While it has not been confirmed that this was the reason, Brooklyn then removed both of his parents from his social media accounts and even removed his brothers, 23-year-old Romeo and 20-year-old Cruz. The youngest of the Beckham bunch, 14-year-old Harper, does not seem to have joined the social media world yet, and it is unclear whether she too would have ended up on the chopping block.
While rumours about what started the family feud have been rampant, official statements have not, and as such what kicked off the feud has not been confirmed. Reports have speculated that Victoria felt slighted when Nicola refused to wear one of her dress designs when she wed Brooklyn in April 2022. Nonetheless, the family was by his side at the lavish ceremony, which was held at Nicola’s family’s estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
Recently, however, the billionaire heiress has rarely been pictured with the extended Beckham family, and they were most notably absent at the pair’s vow renewal ceremony, which doubled as their “second wedding.” The need for the Peltz-Beckhams to have a second wedding ceremony so close to their first gave further fuel to rumours that their original wedding had been damaged in some way by the brewing family drama.
When rumours began to circulate that Victoria and David had unfollowed Brooklyn on social media, Cruz Beckham, who many have described as Brooklyn’s twin, jumped to his parents’ defense. Responding to the rumours, the up-and-coming musician posted on his Instagram Story:
“My mum and dad would never unfollow their son. Let’s get the facts right. They woke up blocked, as did I.”
According to reports, Brooklyn and Nicola’s blocking tirade was because their requests for private reconciliation, as outlined in their letter, were ignored. Although Brooklyn’s letter had no legal basis, being merely a request, there was an exchange of legal letters between Brooklyn and his parents, conducted by their respective legal teams at Schillings and Harbottle & Lewis. This week, publicists and friends on both sides declined to comment, holding out hope that the situation will be resolved and the family will come together once again.
