The lavish funeral of British-Nigerian businessman and influencer Igho "Tiny" Ubiribo has attracted widespread attention following reports that he was laid to rest in a gold coffin worth more than $745,000. But while the extraordinary send-off captured headlines, family and friends gathered to remember a man whose sudden death has sparked renewed discussion about the potential dangers of cosmetic enhancement procedures.

Ubiribo, who was 43, died in Thailand in March after undergoing a penis enlargement treatment while on holiday with his wife, fashion designer and socialite Danielle Simba Allen.

Holiday Procedure Ends in Tragedy

An inquest heard that Ubiribo underwent a cosmetic procedure at a clinic in Bangkok, where approximately 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine were injected into his penis.

Following the treatment, Ubiribo and his wife reportedly attended a massage appointment. It was there that he began experiencing chest pains before collapsing twice.

He was rushed to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors initially assessed his condition and prepared further tests. However, his health rapidly deteriorated before a CT scan could be completed.

Medical staff later determined that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism — a blockage in a blood vessel within the lungs. Despite extensive efforts to save him, including more than 100 minutes of CPR, Ubiribo died in the early hours of March 6.

A subsequent post-mortem examination in the UK reportedly found cellular material in his lungs consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the procedure.

Coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Ubiribo died as a result of a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic treatment.

Known to many as "Tiny," Ubiribo had built a significant following on social media, amassing around 185,000 Instagram followers and becoming known for sharing his luxury lifestyle.

He owned property in both London and Los Angeles and was a prominent figure within British-Nigerian social circles.

His funeral in London drew several high-profile mourners, including Nigerian music superstar Davido, celebrity businessman Cubana Chief Priest and Pastor Tobi Adegboyega.

Speaking at the service, Davido reflected on the loss of his friend.

"I won't lie, it is not easy when someone like Tiny leaves," he said.

"His absence is heavy. It doesn't feel real."

Friends and family paid tribute to a man remembered for his generosity, ambition and larger-than-life personality.

Ubiribo and Danielle Simba Allen married in a lavish ceremony in Zimbabwe in 2022, reportedly costing hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Their extravagant lifestyle often featured prominently on social media, where the couple regularly shared glimpses of luxury holidays, designer fashion and high-end real estate.

That same sense of grandeur was reflected in Ubiribo's funeral, where reports claimed he was buried in a custom-made gold coffin valued at more than $745,000.

While the coffin became one of the most talked-about aspects of the ceremony, many mourners said the focus remained on celebrating Ubiribo's life rather than the lavish details of his farewell.

Experts Warn About Filler Risks

The case has also reignited concerns surrounding penile filler treatments, which have grown in popularity in recent years.

Medical experts have warned that procedures involving injectable fillers can carry significant risks, including infection, loss of sensation, erectile dysfunction, scarring, deformity and, in rare cases, life-threatening complications.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are commonly marketed as a non-surgical enhancement option and can cost thousands of pounds. However, specialists have repeatedly stressed the importance of understanding the potential dangers and seeking treatment only from qualified medical professionals.
