Former Big Brother contestant Hanah Haji has been convicted of assault after a dispute with her younger sister escalated into violence at the family's home. The 26-year-old reality TV personality, who appeared on the 2024 series of the ITV programme, was found guilty of assaulting her 19-year-old sister, Mona Shiekh, following an argument over a request to go to the shop.

Ealing Magistrates' Court heard that Mona was unwell at home on July 16 last year when Haji asked her to run an errand. When Mona declined because she was ill, tensions quickly escalated.

According to evidence heard in court, Haji became angry and allegedly shouted from the hallway: "I hope you die from your condition."

Giving evidence, Mona described how the confrontation turned physical.

"[Haji] muttered: 'What the f**k?' and I could hear her say: 'I hope you die from your condition,' as she shouted in the hallway.

"She barged in, slamming the door against the wall. She pushed me onto the bed and I covered my face and she started banging on my face.

"She was punching. I could feel the fists and I was screaming."

The court heard that Mona recorded part of the incident on her mobile phone, with the footage later played before magistrates.

During the altercation, Mona could reportedly be heard calling her sister a "w***e" and accusing her of "bringing men around the house."

As a result of the attack, Mona suffered a cut above her left eye and bruising to her face.

In a victim impact statement, she told the court:

"I'm really scared of her and can't go back to my home address safely."

Haji Claimed She Acted in Self-Defence

Haji denied assaulting her sister without provocation, arguing that she had acted in self-defence after being scratched and kicked during the argument.

She told the court: "After a bit I punched her because she was kicking and scratching me and a year later I still have those bruises to my legs.

"I punched her and punched her again and she screamed and I backed off. I'm not trying to beat up my little sister and I am not a spitter, that's disgusting.

"I did not want to hurt her physically. I don't blame her, I blame the hostile environment we were in."

Mona denied Haji's claims that she had assaulted her during the incident.

Sentence and Restraining Order

Following her conviction, Haji was handed a rehabilitation activity requirement of up to 15 days and fined £100.

She was also ordered to pay £100 compensation to Mona, along with £250 in court costs.

Magistrates additionally imposed a restraining order preventing Haji from contacting her younger sister.

The court was also told that Haji has a previous conviction for grievous bodily harm dating back to 2016, when she was 15 years old.

Reality TV Fame

Haji rose to public attention after appearing on the 21st series of Big Brother in 2024.

During her time in the house, she made headlines after threatening to go on a "hunger strike" when contestants were punished for breaking the show's rules.

After she and fellow housemate Dean were found to have discussed nominations, Big Brother ordered the house to eat only plain porridge for the day.

Frustrated by the punishment, Haji complained in the Diary Room:

"Big Brother I can't do porridge. Plain porridge. That's famine."

When producers refused her request for honey to sweeten the meal, she added:

"I'm just letting this be known. I will end up starving myself. I will starve myself."
