KINGDOM OF KUBALA LEADER DEPORTED TO GHANA FOLLOWING EVICTION FROM SCOTTISH CAMP

KINGDOM OF KUBALA LEADER DEPORTED TO GHANA FOLLOWING EVICTION FROM SCOTTISH CAMP

The leader of a self-styled African “tribe” known as the Kingdom of Kubala has been deported from the United Kingdom to Ghana after being removed from woodland in the Scottish Borders, bringing an end to a months-long encampment that drew widespread attention online, legal action from authorities, and ongoing concerns from local residents and officials.

The group, which referred to itself as the Kingdom of Kubala, first came to prominence after setting up a makeshift camp in woodland near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders in 2025. The camp was led by Kofi Offeh, who styled himself as King Atehene, alongside Jean Gasho, who called herself Queen Nandi, and Kaura Taylor, known within the group as Asnat.

The trio claimed they were reclaiming ancestral land they believed had been taken from their forebears around 400 years ago. Their presence quickly gained attention online after they began posting regular videos documenting life in the woodland and promoting their belief system.

Their activities led to repeated clashes with local authorities after they refused to leave despite multiple eviction notices and court orders. Officials eventually carried out enforcement action after legal routes were exhausted.

In September 2025, a sheriff ordered the group’s eviction from privately owned land. The group initially resisted removal before relocating to nearby council-owned land, prompting further intervention from enforcement agencies. By October 2025, sheriff officers, police and immigration enforcement teams moved in to dismantle the encampment and remove the group from the area.

Following the eviction, the Home Office confirmed that immigration matters were being investigated. Kofi Offeh was detained and placed into deportation proceedings. He has since been deported to Ghana, arriving at Accra International Airport on 22 April 2026. Footage from Ghana shows him speaking publicly after arrival, where he continued to make claims about his identity and future intentions. Offeh said,

"I've come to take over Ghana, because I am the King of Kubala. Everywhere I land, I take dominion, when I establish my thrown, so the time has come."

In the same clip, Offeh goes on to make further remarks about authority and leadership, stating,

"All the police are going to serve me, all the chiefs are going to bow before me. If you have a president, he has to kneel before me."

During their time in Scotland, the group also caused concern among some local residents, with ongoing disputes reported over land use and repeated involvement from authorities. Kaura Taylor’s involvement also drew international attention after it emerged she had previously been reported missing in the United States before being located with the group in Scotland.

After multiple eviction attempts and enforcement action, the camp was fully cleared, bringing an end to the Kingdom of Kubala’s presence in the Scottish Borders.

Following his deportation, Offeh is now understood to be in Ghana, while the future of the remaining individuals previously linked to the group remains unclear.
