VOX POP: RESIDENTS SHARE THEIR WILDEST TAKES ON WEDDINGS

When it comes to weddings, everyone seems to have an opinion — and one local resident certainly wasn't short of one. As part of our latest vox pop, we stopped people on the street to ask a simple question: "Have you ever been to a Jamaican wedding?"

One half-Jamaican, half-Cuban resident gave an answer that immediately caught our interviewer's attention.

"Uh, rah, you lot are deep," he laughed. "I don't think Jamaicans get married. Do they? Do they not? You tell me. I never thought about getting married."

Surprised by the response, our interviewer asked why.

"Um, I don't know. You don't really see it in our culture. I'm only half Jamaican, half Cuban."

The conversation then turned to his Cuban roots.

"Cubans get married?" the interviewer asked.

"Cubans are lovers," he replied.

The exchange took an even more unexpected turn when he added: "Well, my dad has 28 kids and 22 baby mothers, so think about that."

The remark left the interviewer visibly bewildered and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments from the interview.

However, after the clip was shared online, many viewers challenged the resident's comments, arguing that his personal experience did not reflect Jamaican culture as a whole.

Responding on Shade Borough's Instagram page, one commenter wrote:

"Hate this narrative. I'm Jamaican, my parents are married and grandparents and all my aunts and uncles. Kmt."

Another added: "Meh, my dad's white English and he's got like 18 kids with 7 different women. It ain't a flex — it just creates broken homes."

Others urged people not to make sweeping assumptions based on nationality or background. "Let's stop generalising certain men from certain countries because there's wasteman from all backgrounds."

And perhaps the most memorable response summed up the internet's reaction to the resident's family revelation: "28 kids... 22 baby mothers... Reeeellllll Badman!!"

The discussion sparked a lively debate online, with many pointing out that attitudes towards marriage vary widely between individuals and families, regardless of cultural background. While the resident's comments may have raised eyebrows, social media users were quick to remind viewers that one person's experience does not define an entire community.
