AMELIA DIMOLDENBERG ANNOUNCES SHE IS ENDING CHICKEN SHOP DATE AFTER MORE THAN 12 YEARS

Amelia Dimoldenberg has confirmed that Chicken Shop Date is coming to an end after more than a decade, with the presenter preparing to release a final selection of episodes before officially saying goodbye to the series.

The 32-year-old first created the concept when she was 17, initially developing Chicken Shop Date as a written column before it evolved into the video interview series audiences now know. The first episode was uploaded to YouTube in 2014, featuring British rapper Ghetts, and the format gradually grew from its roots in London’s underground music scene into a major celebrity interview platform.

The premise was deliberately simple. Dimoldenberg would sit across from a celebrity in a chicken shop and conduct what was framed as a date, combining deliberately awkward silences, deadpan humour, flirtation and unexpected questions.

Rather than following the polished format associated with traditional celebrity interviews, Chicken Shop Date became known for its intentionally uncomfortable exchanges. Dimoldenberg’s delivery, often understated and seemingly unimpressed, allowed her to create moments that felt different from conventional press interviews.

Over the years, the series welcomed some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Paul McCartney, Ed Sheeran, Cher, Jennifer Lawrence, Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Dave, Keke Palmer, Andrew Garfield and many more.

One of the most recognisable recurring storylines involved Dimoldenberg and actor Andrew Garfield, whose flirtatious appearances fuelled a long-running will-they-won’t-they dynamic among viewers. Their interactions became some of the show’s most widely discussed moments, while Dimoldenberg continued to maintain the playful fiction that each episode was a genuine date.

The programme eventually grew far beyond its original online audience. Dimoldenberg has interviewed more than 100 guests, while her YouTube channel has accumulated millions of subscribers. The series has also helped establish her as a wider entertainment personality, taking her from independent online creator to a presenter who now regularly works alongside some of the biggest names in film and television.

Now, after more than 12 years of Chicken Shop Date, Dimoldenberg has decided that the time has come to move on.

In an announcement shared with her followers, she reflected on how much the series has meant to her personally, particularly because it has accompanied her throughout her twenties.

She wrote:

"When I was 17 I had a fantastic idea that I might meet the love of my life on a date in a chicken shop.
I've spent my entire twenties sitting across from the most incredible people, people l'd always dreamt of meeting. All of them charmed me (some more than others) and I definitely charmed them.
To me the show is my very own romcom and I have loved creating so many stories for you to watch. I am so grateful to everyone who has followed me on this journey and found some joy in these episodes.
I never thought l'd stop Chicken Shop Date, I thought maybe it would be a part of me forever, and in some way it always will, but I feel like it's now time to move on from this adventure and onto a new one.
But before I say goodbye forever, I want to celebrate everything Chicken Shop Date has been for me with a few final dates...coming very soon.
Love Amelia x"
Dimoldenberg takes to social media to announce news

Dimoldenberg has not confirmed exactly when the final episodes will be released, but has made clear that viewers will get the opportunity to see the series conclude with several more celebrity dates.

The announcement marks a significant moment for a programme that became closely associated with Dimoldenberg herself. While many online shows have struggled to maintain relevance over several years, Chicken Shop Date continued to attract major stars and audiences as its creator developed her career outside the original format.

Its success also helped Dimoldenberg establish herself within the wider entertainment industry. She has taken on presenting roles for television, appeared at major entertainment events and became the official red carpet correspondent for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, interviewing stars at the Oscars across three consecutive years.

Her distinctive interview style has also become recognisable outside Chicken Shop Date, with elements of her deadpan approach and deliberately awkward questioning appearing across online entertainment.

The decision to end the show comes as Dimoldenberg's career continues to expand into other areas. She is developing a romantic comedy film for Amazon, which she is expected to write and star in, while she has also been working on a new teen drama for the BBC.

Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival last month, Dimoldenberg revealed that the BBC project would be her own "version of Skins", referencing the influential Channel 4 drama that launched the careers of several major British actors.

She has also previously revealed that some major stars have turned down the opportunity to appear on Chicken Shop Date, with Timothée Chalamet and Beyoncé among the celebrities she said had so far avoided taking part.

Despite the show's ending, Dimoldenberg's announcement suggests that Chicken Shop Date will remain an important part of her identity. Rather than ending suddenly, she intends to use its final episodes as a celebration of everything the series has achieved.

For more than 12 years, what began as an idea from a teenager hoping she might find love in a chicken shop developed into an international entertainment phenomenon, helping make Dimoldenberg a household name and changing the way celebrity interviews could work online.

Now, after spending her twenties sitting across from some of the world's biggest stars, Dimoldenberg is preparing to close the doors on the chicken shop for the final time and begin the next chapter of her career.
