UK rapper Stormzy appears to address the backlash received for his controversial collaboration with McDonald's in his new song 'Sorry Rach!'.
As you may recall, the rapper faced an overall negative response to his collaboration with the fast food giant due to their ties with Israel.
This was further amplified by the fact that Stormzy had previously shown his support for Palestine, even writing “Free Palestine … if there is ever a clear injustice in the world, no matter how big or small 100 times out of 100 I will be on the side of the oppressed” in a now deleted Instagram post.
Stormzy had also performed at a benefit concert in support of Palestine and Sudan in January 2024.
So it comes as no surprise that fans were confused as to why he would work with a company that has ties to Israel.
After Stormzy was condemned by his fanbase, he denied compromising his beliefs for "commercial gain".
He also denied that his reason for deleting his pro-Palestine Instagram post had any relation to his work with McDonald's, stating: I didn’t archive the post where I came out in support of Palestine for any reason outside of me archiving loads of [Instagram] posts last year,”
He added: “In that post, I spoke about #FreePalestine, oppression and injustice, and my stance on this has not changed.”
The song 'Sorry Rach!' also appears to act as a message to those questioning the rapper's authenticity, referencing his Christian faith and citing bible verses.
