The music industry is mourning the loss of singer-songwriter Talay Riley, who has sadly passed away at the age of 35.
Riley first rose to prominence as a teenager after writing Chip's breakthrough hit Oopsie Daisy, which reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in 2009. The success of the track helped establish him as one of the country's most exciting songwriting talents, with his career continuing to flourish over the years that followed.
As both an artist and songwriter, Riley earned widespread respect throughout the industry. His writing credits extended far beyond the UK rap scene, contributing to music for artists including Jessie J, Tinie Tempah, The Saturdays, Rizzle Kicks, Tinchy Stryder and many others. His ability to craft memorable hooks and commercially successful records made him one of the most sought-after writers of his generation.

Alongside his songwriting achievements, Riley also pursued his own music career, releasing solo material and building a loyal following. However, it was his work behind the scenes that arguably left the biggest impact, helping shape the sound of British pop, rap and urban music throughout the late 2000s and 2010s.
Although the cause of death has not been publicly confirmed, tributes have continued to pour in from across the music industry, with fellow artists, producers and fans reflecting on his talent and influence.
Among the most heartfelt messages came from rapper Chip, formerly known as Chipmunk, who shared an emotional tribute to his longtime friend and collaborator.
“F*cking heck man. You ain't deserve to go out like that fam &. Fly high bro. Your pen will live forever. What a day man. What a life... RIP Talay Riley. I'll cherish the memories forever fam. The relationship between Chip and Riley stretched back to their teenage years, long before chart success and industry recognition arrived. Both emerged during a defining era for UK music, coming up through pirate radio stations, youth freestyles and the Channel U generation that helped launch a wave of British talent into the mainstream.
Their partnership would ultimately produce one of the biggest moments of both their careers when Oopsie Daisy topped the charts. The song became Chip's first UK number-one single and introduced Riley's songwriting abilities to a national audience. It was the beginning of a creative relationship that would remain an important part of both men's stories.
News of Riley's passing has prompted an outpouring of grief online, with fans reflecting on both his musical legacy and the impact he had on UK music. One person commented:
"We have lost another U.K. icon, this guy was so talented, death is honestly something we can’t escape, May God bless their families and grant them more healing, rest in peace to Talay."
