PRINCE WILLIAM VISITS PRINCE OF PECKHAM PUB: WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR PUBS

Prince William paid a surprise visit to South London's beloved Prince of Peckham this week, where he championed the importance of Britain's pubs and the role they play in bringing communities together.

During the visit, the Prince of Wales met with the pub's owners, staff and local residents, spending time learning about the venue's community-focused initiatives. One of those initiatives is Chatty Patty, a social programme designed to encourage people to step out of their homes, connect with others and build new friendships in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Speaking during the visit, William made it clear he's a fan of the British pub scene.

"I love pubs," he said. "I want to do as much as I can to support them because I love the community. We need to protect our pubs."

The future King fully embraced the experience, pulling pints behind the bar and sampling some of the venue's Caribbean-inspired food. He was also spotted enjoying a bottle of Red Stripe, the popular Jamaican lager.

Before leaving, William sat down for a private lunch of jerk chicken and plantain, with the meal making quite an impression.

"The jerk chicken, it blew my mind," he told guests. "I'm hoping Deliveroo can deliver this to Windsor."

The visit also highlighted the pub's resilience. Prince William is understood to have previously donated several thousand pounds to support the business after burglars stole stock from its warehouse in 2024. The contribution helped staff replenish supplies and continue serving the local community following the incident.

For many, the visit wasn't just about a royal dropping by for a pint. It was a recognition of the growing role venues like Prince of Peckham play beyond nightlife, acting as social hubs where culture, conversation and community can thrive.

In an era where many independent pubs continue to face rising costs and closures, William's message was simple: pubs aren't just places to drink, they're places that bring people together.
