Former Love Island contestant Mitchel Taylor, who earned himself the popular nickname Messy Mitch, has come under fire again after making comments about Whitney Adebayo’s hairstyle as she appears on Love Island, All Stars.
Mitch stirred controversy after posting a Snapchat comment about 28-year-old Adebayo, saying:
“Whit you need to change your skin fade tho, this one doesn’t suit you. Bring back the straight hair”
Some viewers argued that the comments crossed a line and were “weird”, while others insisted it was a harmless comment.
Sheffield born 28 year old Mitch Taylor first made his debut on Love Island series 10, where he entered the villa as an original cast member alongside Adebayo on Day 1 and was dumped from the island on Day 56. Mitch later returned for Love Island, All Stars, where he was quickly dumped on Day 16. During their shared stay in the villa, the pair were friends, but fan favourite Adebayo went on to finish in second place with then partner Lochan Nowacki, while Taylor earned himself a reputation for being “messy” due to his dating antics.

Due to currently being on this season of Love Island, All Stars, Whitney herself has not responded. However, the person running her social media page took to her Instagram Story to share a post that some viewers believe was subtle shade in response to Mitch’s comment. The post read:
"Whit need to send the hair deets bc she looks GOOD okay!!!”

Whitney has previously spoken about experiencing racism in her past relationship with ex partner Lochan Nowacki. After their split in April 2025, she alleged that he had called her “too ghetto” and “too loud”, claims that caused significant public discussion around the treatment of Black women on reality television. In a now infamous TikTok, Whitney wrote:
"Fallen in love with the skin he used to call dirty."
Camden’s Whitney is no stranger to racist comments and has previously spoken openly about the racism she received after her first appearance on Love Island. She stated:
“What I’ve encountered more than anything is the reality of racism…
I understand that being in the spotlight [brings] criticism, but what I’ve experienced the past few days goes beyond criticism. This evil, hatred and pure racism and should not be tolerated.”

While many observers rushed to Whitney’s defence, some said they agreed with Mitch’s views on her particular style but insisted that Mitch, as a 'white man', was the wrong messenger. Commentary on Black women’s hair is a tale as old as time, but these days the backlash is evident and mounting for Messy Mitch, and we think a dubiously worded apology will surely be coming within the next three to five business days.
