A man has been formally charged following the tragic death of Elizabeth Tamilore Odunsi, a 23-year-old nursing student from London who was fatally stabbed in her Texas apartment just days before she was set to graduate. Odunsi, also known as Tamilore, was found with multiple stab wounds on the kitchen floor of her Houston residence on Saturday, April 26. Her roommate was also discovered at the scene with serious injuries.
Authorities identified Chester Lamar Grant, 40, as a suspect after he was found in a bedroom suffering from at least one stab wound. He was transported to hospital in critical condition. Grant was arrested on Friday, May 2, and has since been charged with Odunsi’s murder. He remains in custody at Harris County Jail, with bail set at $500,000 (approximately £375,000). According to a preliminary court hearing, the fatal altercation reportedly stemmed from a dispute involving Grant's pet cat.
Odunsi's family has been left devastated by what they describe as “an unimaginable loss.” Originally from the UK, she had moved to the United States to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Her family went on to describe her as "deeply rooted in her Christian faith and active in her church community." The popular student was also known online as Tami Dollars and grew an audience of nearly 50,000 followers who she regularly updated with her nursing ambitions.
In a heartfelt tribute on a GoFundMe page, her relatives described Tami as “a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness,” adding that she had “a special love for children” and aspired to make a difference in their lives through her future work in healthcare. The family is now seeking funds to return Odunsi’s body to the UK for burial and to cover funeral expenses, saying they want to give her “the peaceful and dignified farewell she deserves.”
Tamilore's older sister Georgina has flown to Texas to receive her sister's nursing pin on what would have been her younger sister's graduation day. Meanwhile authorities have confirmed that the investigation into her death remains ongoing.
