HEALTH INFLUENCER AND BODYBUILDER EDDIE ABBEW RECOMMENDS A RAW-MEAT DIET

Health influencer and former professional bodybuilder Eddie Abbew has come out with yet another controversial diet tip - a raw-meat diet. Britain's former number 1 bodybuilder has built a reputation for himself on social media for his uniquely fit physique, health tips and classification of almost all supermarket foods as absolute ‘shxt’.

This time, Eddie’s advise came in a highly circulated video which has been liked more than 40,000 times, in which Eddie can be seen strolling into a butcher's market before picking up a piece of raw meat and biting straight into it. Eddie goes on to ask ‘why would you not eat this raw’ as he continues to tear through the raw meat as if it were no different than a slice of pizza. Eddie then adds ‘Human beings survived long before fire’’ and denounces the idea that meat must be cooked as ‘bullshxxt’. Residents, it turns out food guru Eddie is not wrong, prior to the Stone Age man’s discovery of fire and how to utilise it, raw meat was consumed for approximately the first one million years of human existence.

Well, whilst we’re not sure we’ll be trying raw meats any time soon, we did decide to explore if Eddie could have been right about some of the benefits of raw meat too, heres what we found out:

  1. Humans are omnivores by nature, this means we have the digestive juices required to break down and digest meat, regardless of whether it is cooked or raw.

  1. The heat involved in cooking can and often does destroy beneficial vitamins and other nutrients. Heat can destroy water soluble vitamins such as vitamin B and C which are often lost during high-temperature cooking methods. Minerals like potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc may also be reduced by up to 60-70% by the cooking process.
  2. Raw meat contains animal enzymes which aid our digestion, as a result of that, coupled with the increased consumption of vitamins such as B12 and vitamin C, many raw-meat carnivores describe feeling more energised and having improved digestion.

However, it’s not all raw meat and rainbows, an estimated 2.4 million people a year get sick from food borne illnesses in the UK. Ultimately the cooking process helps to eliminate some harmful bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter and E. coli that can cause food poisoning. Residents, if you are trying Eddie’s raw meat diet, we advise you to stay safe and consult a doctor.
