Big news for students, apprentices and anyone trying to get that “study abroad” experience 👀🌍
The UK has officially signed the legal agreement to rejoin Erasmus+, with the programme set to relaunch in 2027.
This means over 100,000 young people in the UK will be able to study, work and gain experience across Europe again, from university placements to apprenticeships at top companies.
For many, this is a major comeback.
The UK originally left Erasmus+ following Brexit, cutting off a popular route for young people to live and learn abroad. Now, the return signals a reset in relations between the UK and the EU, with both sides looking to strengthen cooperation.
And it is not just about travel.
The programme is known for boosting long term career prospects, especially for students from less advantaged backgrounds, giving them access to opportunities they might not otherwise have.
Alongside the return, the UK has also secured a 30 percent discount on its contribution costs, aiming to make the deal more balanced for taxpayers while still allowing full access to the scheme.
The British Council is expected to take on a major role as the UK’s National Agency for Erasmus+, helping students and organisations apply and make the most of the opportunities available.
Beyond education, the agreement is part of wider UK EU discussions, including cooperation on trade, energy and security, showing a broader shift in how both sides are working together again.
For young people across the UK, though, the message is simple… Europe is back on the table.
Residents, if you had the chance… where in Europe are you going first? 👀✈️
