A serious incident unfolded in Hayes on Friday evening, 28 August, after a London bus crashed into a building close to Hayes and Harlington station.

The H98 double-decker was involved in the collision on Station Road at around 7.02pm, with the bus eventually becoming lodged in the side of a building near the station.

Footage shared on social media appears to show the bus travelling towards a mini-roundabout before continuing around it and veering towards the building. The video appears to show the bus colliding with a car before striking a pedestrian who was in the area. The man can be seen being knocked to the ground as the bus continues towards the building, where it comes to a stop after becoming embedded in the wall.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed that multiple ambulance crews were sent to the scene following reports of a road traffic collision involving a bus and a building.

A man was treated at the scene before being discharged, meaning he did not require hospital treatment. First Bus, which operates the vehicle, later confirmed that both the pedestrian and the bus driver sustained minor injuries.

The bus was not carrying passengers at the time of the crash, according to First Bus. The operator also said the building had sustained damage, although it was confirmed to be non-structural.

First Bus said the circumstances surrounding the collision would be fully investigated and that it would support the emergency services and relevant authorities with their enquiries. The crash caused disruption around Hayes town centre, with parts of Station Road closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and recovery work was carried out.

Transport for London also confirmed that it was assisting police with their investigation into what happened. A TfL spokesperson said:

"Safety is our top priority and we and the bus operator, First Bus, are assisting the police to establish what happened."

The Metropolitan Police attended the scene, although the force said it does not provide statements for non-fatal road collisions through its media service policy.

The exact circumstances that led to the bus leaving its intended path and crashing into the building remain unclear.

The incident has prompted a reaction online, with footage of the collision circulating across social media and attracting comments from people discussing what may have happened. One person wrote:

Another commented:

“These bus drivers must be stressed or something because they’ve been moving mad nowadays.”

Others focused on the layout of the road and the presence of the mini-roundabout, with one person saying:

The crash comes as the H98 continues to serve the Hayes area, with the route operating between Hayes End and Hounslow. Hayes and Harlington station is also served by a number of other bus routes, making Station Road an important transport link in the area.

Following the collision, the damaged bus was removed from the scene, while a cordon remained around the affected building as the area was assessed.

First Bus and TfL are assisting police as enquiries into the cause of the crash continue. At this stage, no further details have been released about what caused the bus to collide with the car, pedestrian and building.
