TikTok influencer Brittany Miller, 29, has issued a tearful apology years after admitting she faked having cancer in 2017. Miller rose to fame by sharing her life as a mum of twins, along with fashion finds and food content, ultimately amassing over 3.5 million followers. But Miller’s latest video isn’t about one of her famously large portions of comfort food — this time, she served an apology to her millions of followers who have waited eight years for her to address the scandal.
In 2017, Brittany, who was 21 at the time, lied to her friends about having cancer. This led one of them to set up a GoFundMe page with the supposed aim of helping her “fight gastric cancer.” It’s unclear how much the page raised before Brittany had it taken down, but at least £150 of the £500 target was reached. The incident went unaddressed by Brittany at the time, as she chose instead to delete comments questioning her fake diagnosis. By 2020, Brittany’s popularity had continued to grow, and she partnered with a breast cancer charity on a campaign. This prompted one of her former friends to speak out, revealing to Brittany’s millions of followers that she had faked her cancer diagnosis.

The Sun previously reported that Brittany was convicted of fraud by false representation in July 2020 for her false claims. She was subsequently given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation and costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. As of 2025, her criminal record will no longer appear on basic background checks.
In her now-viral, five-minute-long apology video, Brittany speaks directly to the camera, explaining that in 2017 she had been suffering from “extremely bad mental health” and was “depressed, suicidal, and confused.” She insisted that she did not act out of “malicious intent or to scam people,” stressing that it “was not a long-running scam.”

Brittany continued: “I did it to keep the people in my life close to me… I don’t condone it, I understand why I did it, and I’ve learned from my mistakes.”
The mum of two revealed that she had lost her partner and her job the year of the scandal, and that “lots of things” contributed to her poor mental state. Brittany confirmed that the fundraising page had been set up by a close friend, saying: “As soon as I saw there were donations, I had the page immediately shut down and I didn’t take a penny from it.”
She added: “I’ve grown from this; I am working on being the best version of myself. I know how horrible this disease is, and I know how much it affects people — so for that, I am so, so sorry.”
Since the scandal, Brittany has tried to rebuild her life and reputation, though she often continues to delete negative comments referencing what her friends once described as her “outrageous” lies.
