QUEEN CAMILLA FACES ONLINE BACKLASH OVER BRIEF EXCHANGE WITH A WOMAN IN ANTIGUA

Queen Camilla has sparked criticism on social media after footage of a brief interaction with a woman during her Caribbean tour circulated online, with viewers questioning why the Queen appeared to shake the woman's hand without looking directly at her.

Queen Camilla has found herself at the centre of another social media debate after a short exchange with a woman in Antigua prompted a wave of criticism online.

Footage of the moment, filmed during the royal couple's visit to the Caribbean island, has been circulating on social media, with viewers questioning the Queen's apparent lack of acknowledgement as she briefly shook the woman's hand before turning her attention elsewhere.

The brief interaction has divided opinion, with some social media users accusing Camilla of appearing dismissive, while others have suggested that the moment may have been taken out of context.

The footage has attracted particular attention because of the Queen's facial expressions and the fact that she does not appear to maintain eye contact with the woman during the handshake.

However, there has been no indication that the interaction was intentionally dismissive, and the short clip does not establish what was happening immediately before or after the exchange.

'Princess Diana would NEVER'

The footage has prompted a mixed response, with comments appearing on the TSB Residents social media page.

Some viewers were quick to compare Camilla with the late Princess Diana, suggesting that the former Princess of Wales would have handled the interaction differently.

One commenter wrote:

"Princess Diana would NEVER. Oh how i miss her"

However, not everyone agreed with the criticism, with another viewer suggesting there may have been something else distracting the Queen at the time.

They wrote:

"Ngl i think its clear to see she got distracted by something. Sh** happens not that deep."

Another commenter also appeared sympathetic towards Camilla, suggesting that people should consider how overwhelming public engagements can sometimes become.

They wrote:

"and I would act the same when I get over stimulated"

Why are King Charles and Queen Camilla in the Caribbean?

King Charles and Queen Camilla were undertaking a nine-day tour of the Caribbean, visiting The Bahamas, Guyana and Antigua and Barbuda.

The visit coincided with Antigua and Barbuda's 45th anniversary of independence, which was celebrated on November 1, as well as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), hosted in the country between November 1 and 4.

The royal couple's programme included diplomatic engagements, independence celebrations and meetings with local communities and organisations.

King Charles, who is Head of the Commonwealth, also attended the opening of the Commonwealth summit, where leaders gathered to discuss international cooperation, economic development and shared challenges facing member nations.

The visit also provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships between Britain and Caribbean nations, although discussions surrounding Britain's historical involvement in the transatlantic slave trade remained an important backdrop to the tour.

During his address to Commonwealth leaders, the King acknowledged the suffering caused by slavery, expressing his personal sorrow over its lasting consequences.

Another royal moment attracting attention

The handshake footage is not the only moment from the Caribbean visit to have attracted online attention.

Earlier in Antigua, King Charles and Queen Camilla were caught in a sudden downpour during celebrations marking the country's independence anniversary.

While Camilla was quickly handed a transparent umbrella and escorted towards shelter, the King remained standing in the rain while waiting for assistance.

The footage quickly went viral, with some viewers criticising the Queen for leaving her husband behind.

Charles later appeared to see the funny side of the incident, joking that he had started growing watercress on his trousers after getting soaked.
