Mr Eazi and Temi Otedola have found themselves at the centre of an online debate after opening up about the extensive medical preparations they made ahead of welcoming their first child.
The couple, who announced last month that they are expecting their first baby together, discussed the subject during a recent episode of their podcast, where they explained why they consulted nine doctors across several countries during the pregnancy.

What may have been intended as a light-hearted conversation quickly generated criticism on social media, with some accusing the pair of being disconnected from the realities facing millions of people who struggle to access even basic healthcare.
During the discussion, Mr Eazi explained that the consultations were not motivated by fear or complications, but rather uncertainty about where they would ultimately be when the baby arrived.
“Why exactly do we see nine doctors? Nine doctors, to give you options, not just that, because we didn’t know where we were going to be. Which country? We didn’t know which country we would decide on. I wanted Japan,” he said.

The revelation immediately caught attention online, particularly because of the couple's wealth and international lifestyle. Many social media users contrasted their ability to consult multiple specialists across several countries with the healthcare challenges experienced by ordinary Nigerians and other Africans.
Some critics argued that the comments highlighted the vast gap between the ultra-wealthy and average citizens, particularly at a time when many families face rising living costs and limited access to quality healthcare.
The backlash was fuelled further by wider conversations on X, where some users accused wealthy public figures of flaunting privileges that are completely inaccessible to most people. Others argued the issue was not the consultations themselves, but discussing them publicly in a way that some felt lacked awareness of how the comments might be received.

“Rich people annoy me so much because this is so tone deaf, and you guys applaud this kind of nonsense.”
Another added:
“Wealthy people will not skip any opportunity to tell you they're better than you lmao”
The criticism comes despite the fact that the couple have openly shared details of their lavish lifestyle before. Mr Eazi and Temi have frequently documented international travel, luxury experiences and high-profile celebrations throughout their relationship.
Their wedding celebrations in 2025 attracted global attention after they held ceremonies across Monaco, Dubai and Iceland, with the events later being featured by major international publications.

Temi, the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, is a successful actress, fashion influencer and podcast host in her own right. She rose to prominence through her fashion content before starring in the acclaimed Nigerian film Citation. Mr Eazi, meanwhile, has become one of Africa's most successful music entrepreneurs, building a career that extends beyond music into technology and business investments.
Not everyone agreed with the criticism, however.
Many supporters argued that if a couple has the resources to seek the best possible medical care during pregnancy, they should not be condemned for doing so. Others pointed out that maternal healthcare outcomes for Black women remain a serious issue globally, making access to experienced medical professionals particularly important.
One person commented:
“No issue with their elaborate weddings, no issue with the grand lifestyle. Because it's something you get to watch, observe and comment on from the other end of a screen. As long as you're entertained then it's all fine. Now the same funds that match the lifestyle and grand celebrations is being used to ensure the health and safely of both mother and baby and the hobbits are out with pitch forks?!”

Another wrote:
“Honestly with the rate that women of colour are dying from ill treatment and neglect in maternal health, l even condone this. People hate what they cant afford.”
Another wrote:
“I mean let them do tf they want! People always have something to say.”
The couple first revealed they were expecting their first child in May after discovering the pregnancy during their honeymoon in Asia following their wedding celebrations. They later described themselves as feeling “extremely blessed and grateful” as they prepare to become parents.

While opinions remain divided, the reaction shows how conversations about wealth, privilege and healthcare can quickly become much bigger than the original story. For some, the nine doctors represented responsible planning. For others, it was a reminder of the inequalities that continue to shape everyday life. Either way, the discussion has ensured that what began as a casual podcast anecdote has become one of the most talked-about celebrity moments of the week.
