GHANAIAN ACTOR YAW DABO MISTAKEN FOR YOUNG FAN BY ENGLAND FOOTBALL ICONS

GHANAIAN ACTOR YAW DABO MISTAKEN FOR YOUNG FAN BY ENGLAND FOOTBALL ICONS

Ghanaian actor Samuel Yaw Dabo, better known simply as Yaw Dabo, has become the centre of a viral social media moment after meeting several England football figures following Ghana's World Cup clash with England.

The actor, who is one of Ghana's most recognisable entertainers, attended the match and later shared videos of his interactions with players and football personalities. While the clips were intended to capture memorable moments from the occasion, it was the apparent misunderstanding surrounding Dabo's age that quickly became the talking point online.

Dabo is well known across Ghana for his work in film and comedy and has spent years building a successful career within the country's entertainment industry. Away from acting, he has also developed a strong reputation for his passion for football and youth development. He has previously been involved in football scouting and youth football initiatives, including operating a football academy aimed at helping young talent pursue professional opportunities.

The viral attention began after Dabo posted a video with England and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham following the match. In the clip, Dabo can be seen thanking the midfielder before praising his performance.

"You have done well," he tells Bellingham.

As the exchange continues, Dabo adds:

"You have made me happy!"

The interaction immediately caught the attention of viewers because of the way Bellingham appeared to respond to him. The England star bends down to Dabo's level during the conversation, gently touches his head and grabs his face affectionately while listening to him speak.

Dabo then asks Bellingham to leave a message for the camera, prompting the midfielder to smile and respond:

"This guy is the man!"

Pointing towards Dabo as he speaks.

Many viewers interpreted Bellingham's body language and mannerisms as those typically used when speaking to a young supporter. The combination of bending down, the affectionate gestures and the overall tone of the interaction led countless fans to joke that the footballer had mistaken Dabo for a child.

The humour surrounding the clip comes from the fact that Dabo is not a young fan at all. Although his exact age has not been formally confirmed publicly, he is widely understood to be several years older than Bellingham, who is currently 22. Having worked in Ghana's entertainment industry for many years, Dabo is regarded as an established figure with a significant fanbase across West Africa.

The comedy continued when Dabo later managed to secure a second viral moment, this time with former Chelsea captain John Terry.

In the video, Dabo is positioned in the stands while Terry remains on the ground below. Passing his phone down, Dabo allows the former England defender to record a selfie-style video featuring them both.

As soon as the camera captures them together, an excited Dabo can be heard shouting:

"Me and John Terry!!"

Terry immediately responds with enthusiasm.

"Yes mate!! How are you?"

The pair continue chatting briefly, with many fans once again noting Terry's warm and somewhat paternal tone towards Dabo. While there was no direct physical interaction due to the distance between them, viewers felt the exchange carried a similar energy to the clip involving Bellingham.

Importantly, much of the online reaction has been light-hearted rather than critical. Fans have been quick to point out that the humour comes from the misunderstanding itself rather than any wrongdoing on the part of the football stars.

Dabo's youthful appearance and short stature have long been part of his public image, with the actor often embracing jokes about his looks throughout his career. Many supporters have argued that the encounters were simply wholesome moments between football personalities and a passionate supporter enjoying the occasion.

The videos have since spread across TikTok, X and Instagram, attracting thousands of comments from people amused by the interactions.

One person commented:

“Lool, he is older than their whole team!! Real legend!”

Another wrote:

“They just think he’s a charismatic kid hahaha!!”

Another commented:

“Touching his head like he’s a yute you know!! LOOOL”

For Dabo, what started as a couple of memorable post-match encounters has turned into one of the funniest viral moments to come out of the tournament so far. Whether Jude Bellingham and John Terry genuinely believed they were chatting to a young supporter may never be confirmed, but the clips have certainly given football fans plenty to laugh about.
