London was hit by a dramatic overnight thunderstorm that unleashed thousands of lightning strikes, torrential rain, and widespread flooding across parts of the capital. The intense storm system moved through the city during the early hours of Tuesday morning, surprising many residents and forecasters alike. According to meteorological data, more than 29,000 lightning strikes were recorded across England within a 24-hour period, with hundreds detected over London between approximately 3am and 6am. The severe weather comes as the UK prepares for an intense spell of heat. Forecasters are predicting temperatures could approach 40°C in parts of England later this week, potentially challenging longstanding June temperature records.
