LEWIS HAMILTON CRITICISES BILLIONAIRES AND CALLS FOR WEALTH LIMITS

Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton is making headlines once again,  but this time, it's not for anything happening on the track.

A resurfaced interview with author and life coach Jay Shetty has reignited conversation around wealth inequality after Hamilton shared his views on billionaires and the distribution of wealth.

Speaking candidly about his experiences in Los Angeles, Hamilton reflected on the stark contrast between the city's glamorous image and the reality faced by many of its residents.

"There is a disparity between the wealthy and the poor," he explained, highlighting the growing homelessness crisis in the city and questioning whether any one person should possess billions of pounds or dollars while others struggle to meet their basic needs.

The racing icon suggested that governments should consider implementing laws that create greater equality and access to resources, arguing that there is enough wealth in the world to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Drawing on his travels, Hamilton recalled encounters with children living in extreme poverty and said those experiences had shaped his views on social responsibility and fairness.

The clip has resurfaced just weeks after reports emerged confirming Hamilton's relationship with billionaire entrepreneur and reality television star Kim Kardashian, prompting fresh debate online.

Many social media users were quick to point out what they viewed as an irony in Hamilton's comments, given Kardashian's billionaire status. The business mogul currently oversees several successful ventures, most notably SKIMS, the shapewear brand she launched in 2019 which has since expanded into underwear, activewear and apparel. The company has been valued in the billions of dollars and is widely regarded as her most successful business venture to date.

Hamilton himself is estimated to be worth hundreds of millions, having built a fortune through his Formula One career, endorsements and business investments. However, supporters argue that his comments were less about individual wealth and more about addressing systemic inequality and creating opportunities for those who have been left behind.

Outside of racing, Hamilton has consistently used his platform to advocate for social change. In 2021, he launched Mission 44, a charitable foundation dedicated to creating more inclusive futures for young people facing social injustice. The initiative focuses on improving access to education, employment opportunities and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers, with Hamilton personally pledging £20 million to help fund its work.

The resurfaced interview has once again sparked discussion about wealth, privilege and responsibility, with some agreeing that extreme wealth should be capped while others argue that individuals should be free to earn and keep as much as they can.

Residents, what do you think? Should there be limits on personal wealth, or is the real issue how that wealth is used?
