Controversial commentator Katie Hopkins was reportedly asked to leave an east London pub after a tense altercation erupted during England’s World Cup fixture against Croatia. The incident took place on Wednesday evening at the Dundee Arms in Bethnal Green, where football supporters had gathered to watch England’s opening match of the tournament. According to video footage obtained by Sell Us Your Story, tensions escalated inside the crowded venue, culminating in Hopkins being escorted from the premises.
The footage appears to show an exchange between Hopkins and several pub-goers, with one man instructing her to leave. Hopkins can allegedly be heard responding with an expletive before moving towards another individual in the crowd. As the confrontation intensified, a number of patrons began chanting insults directed at the media personality.
In response, Hopkins reportedly made a one finger gesture towards those around her and exchanged further verbal abuse. The video appears to show her making physical contact with a man believed to be the pub’s landlord before making her way towards the exit. Cheers can be heard from sections of the pub as she departs.
The dispute did not end at the door. Outside the venue, Hopkins was filmed continuing to argue with onlookers, appearing to push away mobile phones as members of the public attempted to record the scene.
One witness told MyLondon that many customers were uncomfortable with Hopkins’ presence because of her public reputation and past comments.
“I think she was removed because of her views and the controversy surrounding them,” the witness said. “The atmosphere suggested people simply didn’t want her there. I was surprised she was served in the first place.”

Hopkins first gained public attention as a contestant on The Apprentice in 2007 before building a media career through newspaper columns, television appearances and radio broadcasting. Over the years, she has become one of Britain’s most divisive public figures, frequently attracting criticism for comments on immigration, race, religion and social issues.
In 2017, Hopkins departed LBC Radio following widespread backlash over remarks she made on social media after the Manchester Arena bombing. One post in particular drew condemnation for referencing a phrase historically associated with Nazi Germany’s Holocaust programme. The comments triggered numerous complaints to police and generated significant public outrage.
The fallout was swift. LBC announced that Hopkins would leave the station immediately, while campaign groups and members of the public called for further action over the post.
Hopkins has also been involved in several high-profile legal disputes. Among the most notable was a 2017 libel case brought by food writer and campaigner Jack Monroe. The High Court found that Hopkins had falsely accused Monroe of vandalising a war memorial on social media. The ruling resulted in Hopkins being ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs.
In 2020, Twitter permanently suspended Hopkins’ account for breaches of its hateful conduct rules. Her profile later returned to the platform following Elon Musk's ownership and moderation policies.

The confrontation in Bethnal Green once again highlighted the sharply divided opinions surrounding Hopkins. While she continues to maintain a dedicated following, critics argue that her public statements have repeatedly crossed the line from provocative commentary into offensive rhetoric. Whether the disagreement stemmed from Hopkins’ political views, her public profile or emotions heightened by the football match itself, many of those present appeared to share one view by the end of the evening: they wanted her to leave.
