Grime artist JME has found himself at the centre of an online debate after a tongue-in-cheek post about Elon Musk sparked accusations that he was defending the billionaire entrepreneur. JME, whose real name is Jamie Adenuga, is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the UK grime scene. As a founding member of Boy Better Know alongside his brother Skepta, he has built a reputation for his independent approach to music and his often humorous, observational social media posts.

The controversy began after JME posted:

“Some people hate Elon Musk so much, that if they were going to get hit by a train but he grabbed them & saved their life, they would get angry at him and jump in front of the next train to undo his work.”

The post quickly divided opinion, with many interpreting it as support for Musk.

One user wrote: “Nah I’m definitely old now. The guy that probably had the most integrity in the grime scene is glazing Elon Musk. An Epstein affiliate, racist, xenophobe, serial liar and all round despicable human. Let alone the deaths he’s responsible for as US ‘policymaker’.”

Another commented: “Expected better from you, how u gonna question people’s hatred towards him when he’s racist to you’re own people?” While another simply joked: “Durag too tight.”

Others went further, with one user replying:

“You think you’re clever backing a Zionist demonic guy, who has REAL RACIST NAZI LINKS TO AFRICA APARTHEID. SUCK YA MUM. Free da bruddahs in Africa…”

JME responded with humour, replying: “I’m scared of you.” As the criticism continued, the rapper insisted his original post had been misunderstood.

Responding to accusations that he was “glazing” Elon Musk, he wrote: “My guy, you’re confusing depiction with endorsement. It was a joke about the reaction to me talking about neuralink, not advocating for him. But nobody actually cares, Click Click click click so yeh. Glazing. Original glazed.”

JME also poked fun at the wider culture of social media outrage, posting:

“Twitter shouldn’t have been renamed to X. They should have renamed it to ‘Trigger’.” He later joked about engagement on the platform, writing: “You could make so much money by paying for verification and just rage baiting people all day & soaking in that sweet engagement nectar. (Disclaimer, I don’t agree with the statement, it was just a thought in my head, I apologise if it offends you in anyway please don’t be upset)”

Responding to another user who questioned why he appeared to be defending Musk, JME clarified that his comments stemmed from discussions around Neuralink, Musk’s brain-computer interface company.

He wrote: “What hill to die on? I don’t have a Tesla. But they’re great cars. I don’t have anything to do with Elon. Except I use this website. I was talking about neuralink,
Where blind people may be able to see again with a brain chip. Are we not allowed to talk about it?”

He later rounded off the exchange with another tongue-in-cheek observation about the platform itself: “What happened to twitter man, You used to just buss joke,
Post passing thoughts, Now it’s like a packed waiting room where everyone’s vex sat there waiting to type. I know what happened. hahahahahahahahahahahah
ELON F***ED IT!! Hahahahahhahahaahhahahahah Nah ima stop now seriously.”

Elon Musk is the billionaire owner of X (formerly Twitter), CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and founder of Neuralink.
