A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer has been charged with murder in Dubai and could face the death penalty if convicted, according to a human rights organisation.
Brooke George, from Gravesend, Kent, has been accused of killing her boyfriend after the pair, who met online, became involved in an incident in the United Arab Emirates.
The advocacy group Detained in Dubai has claimed George told authorities she grabbed a knife in self-defence during an alleged violent attack by her partner.
The organisation has called for George to be released on bail and for the case to be treated as a domestic violence matter, arguing that the circumstances surrounding the incident require further consideration.
George, who previously worked at John Lewis Partnership before becoming known online as a social media influencer, was arrested in the early hours of 22 June and charged with premeditated murder.
Under UAE law, a conviction for premeditated murder can carry the death penalty, including execution by firing squad.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is supporting a British woman detained in the UAE and her family.
