STUDY FINDS SCHOOL PHONE BANS DO NOT IMPROVE GRADES OR WELLBEING

A groundbreaking study has found no link between banning phones in schools and improvements in pupils’ grades or mental wellbeing. Researchers also found no differences in students' sleep, classroom behaviour, or exercise between schools with and without bans. However, excessive smartphone and social media use was linked to worse academic performance and health outcomes. Lead author Dr Victoria Goodyear stressed that simply banning phones is not enough and urged a broader approach to reducing screen time.
