Five officers from the Metropolitan Police have been taken off frontline duties after a bag containing firearms and a Taser was left on a street in London.

The bag was discovered by a member of the public on Tuesday evening, reportedly outside the home of London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

According to police, it is believed the bag was mistakenly left behind by on duty officers shortly before it was found.

Inside the bag were serious weapons, including a sub machine gun, a pistol, a Taser and ammunition, raising major concerns about public safety.

The member of the public who found it became suspicious after spotting the bag on the side of the road and alerted their partner before checking inside.

After realising what was inside, they quickly contacted police, who arrived within minutes to recover the weapons.

Witnesses said officers appeared visibly shocked as they secured the bag and removed it from the scene.

The Met has confirmed its Directorate of Professional Standards is now reviewing the incident, calling it a serious breach and acknowledging the concern it will cause.

A spokesperson for Sadiq Khan also described the situation as serious, stating that steps must be taken to ensure nothing like this happens again.
