Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas has reportedly been identified as the young woman who died after staff allegedly failed to attach a safety cord before a rope jump in Brazil.
On Saturday, 13 June, De Freitas was launched from the Ponte do Esqueleto, also known as Skeleton Bridge, in Limeira, São Paulo state. Footage of the tragedy, which has since circulated widely online, appears to show the 21-year-old being carried by staff members towards the edge of the bridge before falling approximately 40 metres to her death. De Freitas can be seen wearing a safety helmet, however, after she is released, the safety cord appears to remain on the platform rather than attached to her.

A witness who filmed the incident can be heard shouting:
“Guys, the rope!”
Shortly before the jump, De Freitas reportedly shared a post on her now-deleted Instagram account joking about the experience ahead of her.
“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”

De Freitas was a young woman with her future ahead of her and was reportedly planning to get married. According to Brazilian media reports, her fiancé became unwell after arriving at the scene and later required medical attention.
Reports indicate that De Freitas had travelled to the site as part of a guided excursion. Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, were called to the scene, but she was pronounced dead after suffering fatal injuries in the fall.
Brazilian authorities detained six people in connection with the incident as the Civil Police launched an investigation. Three men, aged 27, 32 and 42, were subsequently charged with homicide with implied malice, a legal classification used when a person is alleged to have accepted the risk that their actions could cause death.
Investigators have also reportedly raised concerns about whether the operation was properly authorised and whether adequate safety procedures were in place at the time of the jump.
Police official Andrea Dantas Levy reportedly stated:
“It was a team there that wasn’t regulated, they didn’t even have authorization to be there”
She also said:
“This fatality happened today, in my perception, due to a failure to verify and supervise the placement of the rope on the victim’s jump.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue examining the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
