Radio and TV presenter Will Njobvu has said he is "black, gay and proud" as he came out via a TikTok video today. In a TikTok video that Njobvu released today, he detailed his experiences of being a gay black man and what his life has been like under the spotlight. In the video's caption, he stated: "I encourage everyone watching this to live your life authentically and ignore the opinions of others - life's too short for that #blacklgbtq #blackgayproud #comingout #comingoutstory #lgbt #gay #storytime #lgbtq #gayandproud".He began the video with a bold statement: "I'm black, gay and proud.
There, I said it. I never thought in a million years that those words would leave my mouth without me feeling cringed, uncomfortable or ashamed."Njobvu addressed his followers by saying that last year was the year he "fully came out" to his friends and family. During this time, he said he lost the support of some of his friends and so he had to cut contact with them. Via gaining a public platform, he also said that he received death threats and homophobic remarks.
Despite the hate he received, he said: "I don't care what people think about me."The 27-year-old presenter said that "today's the day" for him to come out with this statement on a public platform. In the video, he continues: "I think there's power in knowing who you are and owning it. The one reason why I'm making this video about me finally being comfortable with my sexuality is because life is too short.
So it doesn't matter who you are, or what gender you are just live your truth and be authentic to you. Be authentic and the right people will flock to you."Njobvu hosts both the Saturday Breakfast Show and Sunday afternoons on Capital XTRA. He also covers the Entertainment Presenter role on ITV's Good Morning Britain. In 2021, he hosted The Masked Singer: Unmasked.
