Turtle Bay has permanently closed its Brixton restaurant, marking another blow for one of South London's most recognisable high streets as the Caribbean-inspired chain continues to navigate a challenging period for the hospitality industry.
The closure comes as the company pursues a restructuring plan that has also placed its Solihull, Walthamstow and Middlesbrough restaurants at risk, while a Swansea branch closed earlier this year. The business says it is working to relocate affected employees to other restaurants wherever possible as part of the process.

The Brixton restaurant first opened in 2015 and quickly became a staple in the area, drawing in locals with its colourful interiors, tropical cocktails and popular brunch deals.
Across the UK, Turtle Bay has built a reputation around its Caribbean-inspired menu, vibrant atmosphere and, perhaps most famously, its bottomless brunches, which have become one of the brand's biggest attractions.

Following news of the Brixton closure, social media users shared mixed reactions. While many expressed disappointment at seeing another familiar venue disappear from the high street, others used the announcement as an opportunity to criticise the restaurant's Caribbean food offering. Several argued the venue's drinks menu was its strongest selling point, with some calling for the location to return as a dedicated cocktail bar rather than a restaurant.

The closure also reignited wider conversations about Brixton High Street, which has seen a growing number of long-standing businesses and popular establishments shut their doors in recent years. Residents said the latest departure is another reminder of the pressures facing both independent businesses and national chains as rising costs continue to reshape Britain's hospitality sector.
Regardless of the mixed reviews surrounding Turtle Bay's food, its departure represents another significant loss for Brixton's high street and one more empty storefront in a neighbourhood that has long been celebrated for its vibrant food and nightlife scene.
