DJ Tim Westwood has "until further notice" stepped down from his Radio show on Capital 1XTRA after several allegations of sexual misconduct.
In a BBC Three documentary released Tuesday evening, seven women thoroughly detailed their experience with the DJ. Three women accused the former Radio 1 DJ of predatory sexual behaviour whilst four more allege they were inappropriately touched by him at events.A Global spokesperson, the company who own Capital Xtra said:"Following the claims that have recently come to light, Tim Westwood has stepped down from his show until further notice."
Despite rumoured allegations in the past, this is the first time women have detailed their experience with Tim Westwood publicly and officially.A statement issued by a representative for the 64-year-old states that Westwood "strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour" and "rejects all allegations of wrongdoing."
Allegations about Tim Westwood's behaviour toward young black women has circulated through social media for several years. In 2020, Westwood similarly denied these allegations and issued a statement claiming he was the target of "fabricated allegations" which were false and without merit. The women claiming the abuse were in their late teens or early 20s when the alleged incidents happened.
The earliest alleged incident reportedly took place in 1992 and the allegations continue through the years until the most recent in 2017.Some of the women accuse Westwood of abusing his power within the music industry as two recount travelling to London to discuss their musical aspirations with the professional. Westwood would allegedly use his influence within the entertainment industry to lure the young women to his flat and sleep with them.
Tim Westwood's website have removed all listings of events that the DJ was supposed to appear at prior the release of the documentary.
The DJ is considered a pioneer of hip-hop in the UK and hosted the first nationally-broadcast rap show on UK radio from 1994.
