Today, the Queen is celebrating her birthday at the Duke of Edinburgh's cottage on her Sandringham estate.
The Queen, who is now Britain's longest-reigning monarch travelled by helicopter to her Norfolk estate. She would be joined by her family and friends.Photographs for the occasion have been released to mark the monarchs birthday, one of which shows her standing with two ponies - showing her lifelong passion for horses.The picture was taken at Windsor Castle, where Queen Elizabeth spends most of her time.Back in London, two salutes were fired at noon via 41 guns by the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery in Hyde Park, near Buckingham Palace.An hour later, the Honourable Artillery Company, the City of London's Reserve Regiment, fired 62 guns from Tower Wharf, close to Tower Bridge.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took to Twitter to wish the Queen a happy birthday, stating:"Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!"An inspiration to so many across the UK, the Commonwealth and the world, it's particularly special to be celebrating this #PlatinumJubilee year."Priti Patel, Home Secretary, Tweeted: "Sending my warmest wishes to Her Majesty the Queen for a very happy 96th birthday today! Thank you for your incredible service to our country."A Tweet from The Royal Families account shared a black-and-white picture of the young princess aged 2. The account commented: "Then, in 1928, it was never expected she would be Queen, and this year Her majesty is celebrating her #PlatinumJubilee a first in British history."The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall: "Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a particularly special 96th birthday today, as we celebrate her Platinum Jubilee year.In a recent interview with NBC's Today show, Prince Harry mentioned that his grandmother was "on great form", he would go on to add that he wanted to make sure she was "protected" and had "the right people around her."
