The Home Office Have Refused Prince Harry to Pay For His Own Police Security in the UK

Prince Harry is challenging the Home Office's decision not to allow him to pay for his police protection when he returns to the U.K. in court.

His representative said he sought a judicial review of the matter in September questioning the decision-making behind the security procedures.

The representative also added that Harry had decided to take the matter public because of a leak in the British tabloid media.

An emailed statement by his legal representative said that he wanted to bring his two children; Archie and Lilibet, to the U.K. so they can "know his home country". However, the Duke of Sussex found it too risky to do it without proper protection.

The statement also further went on to say that Harry was willing to foot his police protection bill but was unable to do so unless the home office allowed him to.

It also went on to reveal that Harry's security was compromised in a recent trip to the UK to unveil a statue in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana; owing to the absence of police protection.

Inherent security threats

Harry and his wife Meghan already fund a private team for their protection. However, they say it's not enough protection needed whilst in the U.K. The couple says they have received well-documented neo-Nazi and extremist threats in recent years largely due to Harry's affiliations with the royal family.

Responding to the statement, a government spokesperson said in an email that the U.K.'s protective security system was "rigorous and proportionate" and that it was a long-standing policy not to provide detailed information about such arrangements.

The spokesperson also added that it would not be appropriate to comment on the details of any legal proceedings.

Harry and Meghan lost publicly funded police protection in the U.K. when they stepped down as senior working royals and moved to the U.S. two years ago.

The couple's daughter, Lilibet Diana, who was born in June, has yet to meet her great-grandmother, the queen, and other members of the royal family.
