The Cost of Filling an Average Car with Petrol has Hit £100

The cost of filling an average car with Petrol has reached a shocking £100.

Figures have shown that the average price of a litre of petrol at UK forecourts has reached a record number on Wednesday. This week, the highest price was found to be 202.9p a litre at BP sites on the A1 near Sunderland, the M4 near Chippenham in Wiltshire and the M6 near Burton-in-Kendal, Cumbria.

This was a significant increase of 1.6p from Tuesday, making the average cost of filling a 55-litre family car to £100.27. The average price of a litre of diesel on Wednesday 188.1p.

Referring to this shocking development in the petrol price crisis, the Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "We are continuing to look at all possible options. Transparency may have an important role to play.

"It is important the public understand what actions each of the fuel retailers are taking and so we are considering what further options we can take in this area."The recent soar in fuel prices has been driven by the war in Ukraine as Europe moves to relieve dependence on Russian Oil.The Royal Automobile Club (RAC) have referenced this news as a "truly dark day" for drivers.

The club's spokesman Simon Williams has said: "While fuel prices have been setting new records on a daily basis, households up and down the country may never have expected to see the cost of filling an average-sized family car reach three figures."

He continues:"March's 5p fuel duty cut now looks paltry as wholesale petrol costs have already increased by five-times that amount since March," he said.The rise in petrol prices are just one example of the the cost of living crisis as many households in Britain are struggling to afford daily life. According to official government forecasts, households will see the biggest drop in household disposable income since records began in the 1950s.Energy bills are over double what they were last year and tax rises began to kick in last month.
