Three teenagers have been convicted of murdering 51-year-old Anthony Marks in a violent county lines retribution attack, in a case that has sent shockwaves through London. The attack, described by the Metropolitan Police as “shocking and unprovoked,” involved the victim being struck with a car bonnet, chased, stamped on, and repeatedly beaten with a gin bottle. Jaidee Bingham, 16 at the time and known as ‘Ghost’, Eymaiyah Lee Bradshaw-McKoy, also 16, and Mia Campos-Jorge, 17, were all part of a drug-running gang involved in county lines operations across the city. On the night of the attack, the teenagers targeted Marks, a customer, luring him into a violent confrontation that would ultimately prove fatal. Marks was discovered at King’s Cross Station by Metropolitan Police officers at approximately 5:25am on Saturday, 10 August 2024. He had sustained severe injuries to his face and arms. Despite being rushed to hospital, he died on 14 September 2024 from the injuries sustained in the assault. Police investigations were aided by the teenagers’ own social media activity. Selfies and videos taken before and after the attack placed the three at the scene and documented their involvement. In addition, detectives utilised extensive CCTV footage and forensic analysis of mobile phones to trace the teenagers’ movements across London and confirm their connection to a local drug gang. Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Reynolds, who led the investigation, stated: “This was a brutal and calculated attack. The teenagers were part of a gang network that uses violence to assert control over victims and rival groups. The evidence, particularly the videos and social media content, was crucial in securing their convictions.” The teenagers, now all over 18, were convicted at the Old Bailey on Thursday, 30 October 2024. The case highlighted the dangerous intersection of youth gang culture, social media, and violent crime in London. The sentencing marks a significant step in holding young offenders accountable for serious violent crime, particularly those involved in organised county lines activity. The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that ongoing efforts are being made to monitor gang activity in the city and intervene before violence escalates. Marks’ family has paid tribute to him, describing him as a “kind and hardworking man whose life was cut tragically short.” They have expressed relief at the conviction but emphasised that nothing can undo the loss they have suffered. This case also underscores the increasingly prominent role social media and mobile technology play in violent incidents, where offenders document their crimes, leaving a digital trail that can be used to support police investigations and prosecutions.
