SUGABABES’ KEISHA BUCHANAN ALLEGES TEN YEARS OF ABUSE BY FOOTBALLER EX IN ONGOING COURT CASE

Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan has accused her ex-partner, former footballer Taiwo Atieno, of a decade-long campaign of abuse, now under investigation in court.

Keisha Buchanan, 40, has brought forward serious allegations against her former partner, 39-year-old Taiwo Leo Atieno, claiming he subjected her to a prolonged pattern of abusive behaviour throughout their relationship. The court heard that Atieno, a former professional footballer, allegedly exerted control over numerous aspects of Buchanan’s life, including her appearance, diet, and daily routines.

Among the claims made, Buchanan alleges that Atieno banned her from wearing red lipstick, dictated what she could eat, and restricted her access to television and the gym. Prosecutor Edward Kalber described the alleged conduct as a “persistent campaign” of coercion and harassment, resulting in both emotional and physical harm.

The alleged abuse is said to have taken place between 2012 and 2021. During that time, Atieno is accused of physically assaulting Buchanan, including grabbing her by the neck and striking her on multiple occasions.

Despite a family court order prohibiting any contact, Atieno is alleged to have continued harassing Buchanan through emails, text messages, and social media. He is also accused of demanding £25,000 from her in the midst of these communications.

The pair began their relationship in 2011, with Atieno also acting as Buchanan’s business manager — a role that may have further compounded the alleged imbalance of power and control.

Atieno now faces multiple charges, including controlling and coercive behaviour, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, harassment, and breaching a non-molestation order. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Harrow Crown Court on 5 June 2025.
