Nicola Sturgeon announces hopes to hold Scottish Independence Referendum in October 2023

Sturgeon states she will not allow "Scottish democracy to become prisoner to Boris Johnson" as she announces the date for the Scottish Independence Referendum.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon plans to hold another Scottish Independence Referendum on October 19th 2023 and has supposedly already taken steps to confirm the legality of the vote.

This would be the second referendum following the vote of 55% to remain as a part of the UK in September 2014.

Following Sturgeon's SNP party campaigning for greater power and adds Scotland should be able to make all of its political decisions.

Scottish independence implicates many changes within the country including university tuition fees, defence, education and housing. Their independence would also mean that the UK's armed forces would be disbanded and Scotland would need to start their own.

The 2014 referendum vote hugely impacted the lives of young people and as a result, the election saw 16 and 17-year-olds allowed to vote for the first time in United Kingdom history with more than three and a half million casting their votes.

Sturgeon is now seeking a Supreme Court ruling as the first minister states she will not allow Scottish democracy to be a prisoner of Boris Johnson or any prime minister.

In a talk with MSPs, Sturgeon has said she hopes the referendum will go forth but, in the case they do not get approval, it'll resolve to a de facto referendum.

The Scottish first minister adds, "either way, the people of Scotland will have a say".
