Far Right British Broadcastor Lin Mei, who is of Bajan/Pakistani heritage and who regularly engages in debates online about politics and cultural issues has sparked discussion around how differing political and social ideals can influence perceptions of identity and belonging within communities.

‍She has reflected on the different treatment she believes she has experienced from people both within and outside of the Black community, while questioning what influences those perceptions. Mei questions if her opposing views were different if then she would be received more postively by the black community.

She questioned:

Does that mean then …. To be black you must toe the line, have herd mentality, must be left winged or a socialist, only speak out if it’s things which comfort the community and make them feel vindicated for abhorrent behaviour- is that what it means to be “seen” as black because there are many mixed race people who’s ethnicity is never questioned,  but on social media mine is daily.

She continues with:

Talk to me, I’m interested to get to the bottom of why I face the most racism from people who look like those I grew up with here and in the Caribbean- Black people. Let me not group everyone together - I don’t face hardly any racism from black  educated people who tend to come from middle class educated backgrounds or  find themselves to have done well and are middle class now/are a bit older … they tend to agree or support me  or at least have the manners snd behaviour to challenge me with respect without name calling and abuse🤷🏽‍♀️

Users online did not respond to her post positivity and Mei ended up receiving a ton of pull back for her recent comments.

Because you’re clearly a grifter. You never let us forget you’re mixed yet only ever express views on the Black community and not in a way to diversify thought, but to undermine us. You do a lot of talking and not enough listening and it’s obvious why.

Another added:

Please stop caping for the FarRight!! Most of ppl want and need reparations, it’s a debt, owed ….. you don’t seem to understand that…
