American Rapper Kid Cudi has removed M.I.A. from his “Rebel Ragers” tour following backlash over her recent on-stage remarks about supporting Republicans. The moment that sparked it all happened during a stop in Dallas, where M.I.A. told the crowd she had been “cancelled for being a brown Republican voter.”
What followed was a mixed reaction in the room and a louder one online, with clips circulating quickly and audiences questioning whether the commentary matched the tone of the show they came for.
Cudi has been clear about the kind of energy he wants on this tour, and it seems this crossed that line. Rather than letting it linger, he made a swift call to remove her from the remaining dates. The “Rebel Ragers” tour, which kicked off on April 28 in Phoenix, is set to run through June with multiple stops across North America. Despite the shake-up, the schedule continues as planned, with other supporting acts still in place.
He addressed the decision directly via Instagram Stories, speaking to his 3.3 million followers. In the posts, Cudi explained that he had already set expectations around keeping performances free from anything he considered offensive or divisive. He also pointed to the volume of messages he received from fans following the Dallas show, making it clear that audience experience played a role in the decision.

For context, M.I.A. is no stranger to controversy. The British artist, born Mathangi Arulpragasam, built her career on blending music with political commentary. Hits like Paper Planes, Bad Girls, and Borders cemented her as both a chart presence and a cultural commentator, often using her platform to speak on immigration, identity, and global politics.
Taking to X, M.I.A told fans that she is being silenced, and that she has no interest in cancel culture, or what she believes is a "virtue signal era."
She wrote in capital letters: “I WROTE ILLYGAL ON THE MAYA LP A SONG FROM 2010. I STARTED THIS INTRO TO THE SONG WITH THE STATEMENT SAYING I’M ILLYGAL, AND I SAID MY TEAM HASN’T GOTTEN VISAS YET."
She added, "THEN PLAYED A SONG THAT HAD LYRICS SAYING “FU&% THE LAW”, WHICH I STILL BELIEVE, IF THE LAW IS UNJUST F@%& IT. DO NOT GASLIGHT MY WORDS. THAT IS THE WORK OF SATAN. I WROTE BORDERS AND ILLYGAL AND PAPER PLANES BEFORE YOU THOUGHT IMMIGRANT RIGHTS WERE COOL. I’VE HAD THSES BATTLES BY MYSELF WITHOUT THE HELP OF MILLIONS OF FANS BACKING ME . I DON’T NEED THIS VIRTUE SIGNAL ERA TO ALL OF A SUDDEN ERASE AN ENTIRE LIFE I’VE LED. JESUS WAS AN IMMIGRANT AND A REBEL. I HAVE NO APPOLGY FOR THE JUDGEMENTAL THE WICKED AND THE IGNORENT, FOR THOSE ARE SPIRITS THAT WE MUST OVER COME IN OUR LIVES AND IN THIS WORLD. JESUS RETURNS TO LEAD THE WORLD JUSTLY BECAUSE THERE IS INJUSTICE IN THIS WORLD . IM PROUD OF THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR IT EVERYDAY. GOD BLESS YOU. GO LISTEN TO M.I.7.”
