Kaz Crossley, social media influencer, has reportedly been freed from Dubai jail after four days behind bars.
What was supposed to be a quick layover on her journey to Thailand turned into a nightmare for Kaz when she was detained at Abu Dhabi airport after her name was flagged by authorities.
The past certainly returned to haunt her, as the arrest is understood to be in regards to a video from November 2020, which allegedly shows Crossley sniffing a white powder while partying in Dubai.
The image went viral on social media at the time; however, the controversy quickly died down, and the influencer switched gears in her career when she began focusing on charity work and fitness, especially in Thailand.
Regarding Monday’s arrest, The Sun referenced a source that said:
“[Kaz] was looking forward to getting back to Thailand, where she has been doing voluntary work, and all of a sudden, she is languishing in a Dubai jail. She was allowed to send just one email and wasn’t even allowed to make a phone call.”
“She messaged one particular friend whose email she could remember and asked her to inform her family that she was OK but had been arrested for drug offenses. The arrest wasn’t because of anything she had on her. As far as we know, it is all down to that video.”
Kaz has now allegedly been released from jail and is able to continue on her journey as normal. A Foreign Office spokesperson had previously made it clear that the situation was being dealt with prior to the news of her release.
“We are providing consular assistance to a British national who was arrested in the United Arab Emirates and are in contact with the local authorities.”
A representative for the 28-year-old influencer said that Kaz had been freed after “fully cooperating” with officials:
“Kaz has fully cooperated with officials and is free to continue her journey.”
The United Arab Emirates is known for its strict zero-tolerance policy on drugs. According to the UK government’s website, “Possession of even the smallest amount of illegal drugs can lead to a minimum three-month prison term or a fine not less than AED 20,000 [£4,561] and not exceeding AED 100,000 [£22,805].”
