GINGA JAY REMOVED FROM 'PENGAME' AFTER HIS COMMENTS ON BLACK WOMEN

Social media personality Ginga Jay has faced backlash after he made comments about black women on the online series BkChat LDN. Ginga Jay, real name Jahzeiah Francois, caused quite a stir as he began his rant with “here’s why I don’t date black women”, shortly after discussing his relationship with his South-Asian girlfriend. He kicked off his rant in an aggressive manner as the confrontation became heated, saying: “you lot don’t like to f*cking listen.” His comments have led to him being dropped as one of the hosts of the 'Pengame.'

Expanding on his reasons for avoiding black women as romantic partners, he claimed that black women ‘don’t like to get put in their place’, adding: “when you get put in your place, you think you’ve gotta talk like a man”. Naturally, his comments upset several black women who were present at the time of filming, which caused the debate to escalate. He then began targeting one black women’s hair, yelling, “Where is your hair?”. He further went on to tell the woman to remove her hair, eyelashes and makeup.

Aftet the backlash, Ginja Jay apologised for his comments, he later clarified that his apology was merely for losing his temper, rather than his actual views. In his Instagram video he said: “everything I said was true and everything I said was a fact because it was about me”. He emphasised that he was not generalising all black women, but instead a select few, including the woman he was going back and forth with in the clip. He went on to express his love of black women’s “beautiful” hair, claiming that he would prefer to see natural hair over wigs.

This is not Ginga Jay’s first encounter with controversy, as in 2015, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for his involvement in a plot to intimidate a court witness by throwing a grenade into his back garden, as well as firing gunshots. He was sentenced along with four other individuals who had devised the plan in order to prevent the witness from testifying in court in a case about the gang supplying class A drugs. Ginga Jay, then 24, was charged with conspiring to pervert the course of justice. He served 11 years.

The viral clip received a mixed response from the public, with the majority of individuals criticising his comments, dubbing them ‘anti-black’ and fuelled by ‘self-hatred’. A select few defended his comments, with some saying he is allowed to have a preference and others agreeing with his questionable views on black women. His remarks have also prompted other known black influencers to speak out.

Zeze Millz responded to the video, posing a question to non-black women who date men with this mentality, asking how the women feel about his mindset. She asked if the women felt ‘fetishised’ and as though they are the prize, questioning whether they would question a man who speaks negatively of his own race.

Podcaster IceCream also uploaded a video to Instagram, calling Ginga Jay the “donut of the decade” whilst also calling out BkChat LDN for allowing him to have a platform. Although IceCream’s critique was not entirely applauded do to her comments about Ginga Jay’s appearance and his blackness, she finished her video by calling him an “angry black female”.

Social commentator Lin Mei also shared a similar opinion, criticising BkChat LND for allowing him to express such extreme views, and then sharing the footage. She also suggested that Ginga Jay is “clearly riddled with mummy issues” as well as “prison trauma”, citing his 11 year prison sentence. Comedian Spuddz also weighed in on the topic, saying: “I don’t know any race that bashes each other like black people”.

After coming out of prison after serving 11 years, he managed to turn his life around as a comedian and one of the hosts of the 'PenGame.' But after his comments, the creator of 'Pengame,' rapper Margs has announced he has been removed from the show.
