GHETTS FACES FURTHER DANGEROUS DRIVING CHARGES AFTER FATAL HIT AND RUN

Rapper and actor Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke‑Samuel, is now facing additional dangerous driving charges following the deadly hit‑and‑run incident last month in East London. The 41‑year‑old is accused of failing to stop after his BMW struck 20‑year‑old international student Yubin Tamang on Redbridge Lane East, Ilford, on the night of 18 October.

Prosecutors initially charged Clarke‑Samuel with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, but after Tamang succumbed to his injuries two days later, on 20 October, the charge was upgraded to death by dangerous driving.

In addition to the original charge, he now faces two further counts of dangerous driving: one allegedly before the crash, on Tavistock Place and other roads in Camden; and another allegedly after the crash, in Worcester Crescent, Redbridge, and on the journey back to his home in King’s Avenue, Woodford.

Police reportedly attended his Woodford address early the next day and found a damaged black BMW, allegedly registered and insured in his name.

Ghetts appeared for a preliminary hearing via video link from prison, dressed in a plain grey shirt, and confirmed his identity in court. The next hearing is scheduled for 8 December, when he is expected to enter a plea. At this stage, the rapper remains remanded in custody.

Yubin Tamang was a student at the University of Roehampton, described by his family as a “bright light.” The only child of his parents, they sent him from Nepal to the UK for higher education. In the wake of his death, his father shared emotional tributes, writing,

“My little world, all I have left is tears in my hands.”

Meanwhile, his sister, Manita Rai, posted on TikTok:

“Please get justice for my brother. We miss you.”

Yubin’s family travelled from Nepal to London to attend the hearing at the Old Bailey, emphasising how personal and international the impact of the accident has become.

Yubin's family received support funds from NRNA UK.

Ghetts' case has sparked widespread public outrage and calls for accountability. Many see it not just as a tragic accident, but as a chilling reminder of the dangers of irresponsible driving, especially when it involves someone in a position of fame. With Ghetts being a prominent figure in the UK grime scene and also starring in the Netflix series Supacell, his status adds to the scrutiny and public interest.

The case has raised questions about road‑safety standards and the responsibilities of public figures in the UK. As the legal process unfolds, people, especially in the Nepali community, are watching closely and anxiously as they seek justice for Yubin Tamang.
