Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary Dominic Raab Has Handed In His Resignation

Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary Dominic Raab has handed in his resignation after months of allegations regarding bullying within the workplace in the Ministry of Justice.

The former Deputy PM faced several formal complaints over his interactions with civil servants, including accusations that he bullied and patronised staff, which allegedly led some to tears or caused them to vomit before meetings.

Raab describes the findings of the inquiry as "flawed" stating they "set a dangerous precedent for the conduct of good government". He said that the result would encourage spurious claims against ministers from within Whitehall.

He also claimed to have been the victim of a witch hunt.Raab continued: ‚"A number of improprieties came to light during the course of this inquiry. They include the systematic leaking of skewed and fabricated claims to the media in breach of the rules of the inquiry and the Civil Service Code of Conduct, and the coercive removal by a senior official of dedicated private secretaries from my Ministry of Justice private office, in October of last year.

I hope these will be independently reviewed .Raab later suggested that he would be a man of his word after stating: "I am genuinely sorry for any unintended stress or offence that any officials felt, as a result of the pace, standards and challenges that I brought to the Ministry of Justice. That is, however, what the public expect of ministers working on their behalf.

He added: "I called for the inquiry and undertook to resign, if it made any finding of bullying whatsoever. I believe it is important to keep my word. "Since November, the deputy Prime Minister has been under investigation for eight official complaints regarding his actions as foreign secretary, Brexit secretary, and his first tenure as justice secretary.Mr Raab was accused of causing colleagues to cry or vomit before meetings. In addition, the minister was accused of throwing Pret-A-Manger tomatoes across a room in a "fit of rage," a claim which he rejects.
