Two siblings have each been jailed for life after a “truly sickening” and unprovoked stabbing attack over a drug debt.
Mya Marsh, 23, and her 21-year-old brother Isaiah Marsh were recently sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison for killing 21-year-old Minister Enfrence over a £200 cannabis debt in Birmingham. On Monday, the jury deliberated for no more than 4 hours before passing down the unanimous “guilty” ruling.
Birmingham Crown Court heard that the defendant duo shared a residence at Teviot Grove in Kings Norton, just around the corner from what became the crime scene. Bank worker and cannabis user Mya was trying to buy drugs from Mr Enfrence when she met him near her home armed with a kitchen knife at about 10am last November 5.
Mya then went on to call her younger brother Isaiah to the scene, where he proceeded to launch the “ferocious attack” on Enfrence as he "lay defenceless on his back on the floor". The judge also noted that the vicious attack took place in broad daylight with bystanders nearby, he stated:
"This was an attack by two people on one. That attack was unprovoked. Members of the public, including a child in a pushchair, passed very close by while the attack was taking place."
Details of the early morning slaying were only made worse once the court heard that Mya, after taking the morning off citing “mental health reasons”, went to work that day “as if nothing had happened”.
Judge Simon Drew, left little doubt that Mya was the initial aggressor and described the crime, which was largely captured on CCTV, as “truly sickening” to watch. In reference to Mya’s actions, Judge Drew added:
“One of your drugs dealers was Minister. It was that relationship, and the tensions within it, that ultimately led to his death…
"I do not shy away from the fact that he was a drugs dealer who was carrying a knife on the day he died, but in no way should that be thought to justify the circumstances or manner of his death.
He was stabbed repeatedly but he did not die instantly. In obvious pain he was able to escape from you and he tried to get help."
Enfrence suffered at least 12 stab wounds in the which both Isaiah and Mya plead not guilty to ahead of the three week trial. The siblings will serve a minimum of 20 years before becom eligible for release.
