AFTV'S TY, GETS GRABBED BY STEWARDS DURING HEATED ALTERCATION AFTER ARSENAL MATCH

Viral AFTV star Taiwo Ogunlabi, better known to the channel’s nearly two million subscribers as Ty, the ever-optimistic Arsenal supporter, found himself in a different kind of kick-off on Saturday.

Following Arsenal’s away game at Sunderland, the 49-year-old superfan was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with Sunderland A.F.C. fans, though the source of the argument remains unclear. One could assume that Sunderland’s supporters, popularly known as the Black Cats, took issue with the Gunners’ unshakable loyalty, or perhaps the feeling was mutual.

Ty’s staunch defence of Arsenal, which once led him to blame a defeat to Watford on the rain, proved stronger than goalkeeper David Raya’s performance that night. Raya conceded two goals against the Premier League newcomers, including an impressive early strike from 26-year-old Daniel Ballard and a late finish from Brian Brobbey, which brought an end to Arsenal’s ten-game winning streak.

Arsenal began to claw back some dignity in the second half with an impressive goal from fan favourite Bukayo Saka, who blasted a fierce shot past Robin Roefs. Leandro Trossard then launched Arsenal into the lead, sending travelling fans into a short-lived frenzy before the match ultimately ended in a 2–2 draw.

The altercation was filmed by members of the 50,000-strong crowd at the Stadium of Light and quickly made its rounds on social media. Ty, best known for his passionate appearances on AFTV, formerly Arsenal Fan TV before the club requested a name change, has long been a favourite among viewers for his unwavering loyalty. However, he has also become one of opposition fans’ most polarising figures, and tensions with the Black Cats appeared to boil over when a steward stepped in to intervene.

Video footage shows the steward grabbing Ty by the scruff of his collar and keeping a firm hold on his distinctive red Arsenal jacket. Ty can be seen resisting his removal while shouting indistinct words, as another bystander steps in from behind, seemingly to pull him out of harm’s way, before he is eventually escorted out of the stadium concourse.

For some, it was the most memorable kick-off of the night. For others, Ty was simply one of thousands of disappointed Arsenal fans. He has yet to publicly address the incident, but it is unlikely that the entire affair will keep the die-hard Gooner away from Arsenal’s next game.
