MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANTEUR ON TRIAL AS COURT HEARS HE SPIKED WOMAN’S DRINK AT MAYFAIR CLUB

The trial of Michelin star restaurateur Vikas Nath continued this week as a court heard allegations that he spiked a woman’s drink at an exclusive Mayfair nightclub after becoming frustrated that she was not responding to his advances.

Nath, 63, is accused of targeting the woman during a night out at Annabel’s, one of London’s most high profile private members clubs. Jurors were shown messages Nath allegedly sent to a friend earlier that evening, in which he suggested he was losing interest in pursuing her through what he described as traditional seduction.

In one message, Nath wrote that he was at Annabel’s and suggested it was likely his final evening with the woman because she was not engaging with him. He went on to say that he would need to rely on “old fashioned seduction” before questioning whether he even had the patience for it.

The court heard that Nath was later caught on CCTV by club staff allegedly tampering with the woman’s drink. He was arrested shortly afterwards.

Nath has admitted to spiking the drink but denies any malicious intent. He told the court that he added the substance to help the woman relax, rather than to incapacitate her or take advantage of her. Prosecutors argue that his messages and actions paint a very different picture, suggesting deliberate and calculated behaviour.

The trial continues as the jury considers whether Nath’s actions amount to a serious criminal offence.
