Three people have died following a suspected outbreak of Hantavirus on board a cruise ship, with multiple passengers falling seriously ill.

A further three individuals are currently unwell, including a British tourist who is being treated in intensive care in Johannesburg.

According to tracking data, the vessel remains stationed off the coast near Praia, with authorities taking strict precautions to contain the situation.

Local health officials have confirmed that passengers will not be allowed to disembark at this stage, in an effort to protect the local population and prevent any potential spread of the virus.

Hantavirus is typically transmitted through contact with infected rodents or their droppings, and while outbreaks are relatively rare, they can be extremely serious.
