Spac Nation figure Jessica, known online as Jess RV, has sparked debate online after questioning why people continue to thank and praise God while facing financial hardship.

During a recent livestream, Jess challenged the way some Christians approach worship, particularly when their circumstances appear to give them little to celebrate.

“Why do you lot think God wants to hear you thank him 25 hours of a day?” she asked, before adding: “All you go to do on a Sunday is thank and praise.”

Jess then turned specifically to financial struggles, questioning:

“Your mum can’t put food on the table so what are you thanking God for?” and, “You’re thanking God for what, exactly?”

The comments appear to draw partly from Jess’ own testimony. She has previously spoken about a period in her life when she would attend church and praise God while her family was struggling financially, an experience she now appears to view differently.

Jess has also spoken openly on several occasions about her allegiance to Spac Nation and its leader, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, frequently promoting the group’s ideas and encouraging others to join the church.

Spac Nation has long attracted attention for its association with displays of wealth and luxury, with designer clothing, expensive cars and financial success featuring heavily in the image surrounding the group. The church’s messaging has often positioned financial abundance and freedom as something followers can aspire towards, making money a prominent part of how its lifestyle and teachings are presented.

However, Jess’ latest comments have divided viewers, with critics arguing that gratitude and faith do not have to be tied to a person’s financial circumstances.

“You can actually be grateful for life it’s not always about money man wow”

“Thanking god for another day? Another opportunity to turn your situation around perhaps?”

Others felt Jess’ association with Spac Nation provided important context for her perspective, with one viewer writing:

“She’s from Spac nation, are we really shocked?”

For many viewers, the issue was not Jess questioning how people respond to hardship, but her suggestion that financial struggle leaves little reason to thank God.

With money and financial freedom already playing such a prominent role in Spac Nation’s messaging, some felt her comments reflected the same emphasis on wealth they have long associated with the church.

While some understood the point Jess was attempting to make about wanting more from life than simply accepting difficult circumstances, others firmly rejected the idea that gratitude should depend on what is in your bank account.
