UK RAP "MOUNT RUSHMORE" SPARKS DEBATE ON SOCIAL MEDIA

In the ever-evolving world of UK rap, who deserves to be considered part of the genre’s elite is always up for debate. Now a viral meme about “Mount Rushmore” has the discussion on the table again. The meme shows the American monument with the likeness of famous figures carved into it. Mount Rushmore is a famous monument in South Dakota featuring the carved faces of four U.S. presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Known for symbolising American history and leadership, it’s recently gone viral on social media— as fans are playfully highlighting their favourite actors, singers and even Disney stars.

However, Krept, one-half of UK rap duo Krept & Konan, has made it clear that he’s unbothered by whether he and Konan are included in the list. In a recent Instagram story post, Krept wrote: “Wahali, I couldn't give a rass about an AI mountain and who's on it btw.” His casual dismissal of the idea contrasts with his colleague, Konan, who had earlier commented on the meme, stating, “UK rap, we defo on Mount Rushmore.”

Konan’s post was accompanied by a picture of him and Krept alongside notable UK rap figures, including Stormzy, Wiley, Dave, and J Hus. Krept & Konan have succeeded in the UK rap scene for over a decade. Their breakthrough came with the album Young Kingz (2013), which marked them as serious contenders in the rap game. Since then, they've released several successful projects, including The Long Way Home (2015) and Revenge Is Sweet (2020). They have four MOBO awards and host BBC TV show, "The Rap Game UK."

Meanwhile, our Residents were quick to offer who they thought should be on who should be on the UK rap Mount Rushmore. One Resident simply wrote, "Wiley, Dizzee, Kano, Skepta." Another when speaking on Krept & Konan said, "They’re most definitely not, done a lot for the scene but I couldn’t tell you the last time I looked up a Krept & Konan song." While a third commented, "Be real Konan is the best lyrically out of all of them - bar Skepta, they all probably idolised him at one stage. Some ain't ready to hear this."
