When Grace Ladoja founded Homecoming Festival in 2018, her vision was clear: to create a meaningful cultural space where the Nigerian diaspora could reconnect with home. What began as a grassroots initiative has since evolved into one of Africa’s most influential cultural platforms, drawing creatives from across the globe to celebrate music, fashion, art and sport.
Now, eight years on, the festival’s cultural impact has caught the attention of global sportswear giant Nike. In a landmark collaboration, Nike has partnered with Ladoja to design a bold, new sneaker exclusively for the 2026 edition of Homecoming—marking a significant moment in the intersection of global brands and African creative culture.
Ladoja, who is also the founder and creative director of Metallic Inc, has built a reputation for bridging creative communities between London and Lagos. Her work sits at the crossroads of music, fashion and youth culture, where she has consistently championed emerging African talent while connecting them to international audiences.
Born and raised in London, Ladoja began her career in the music industry, working closely with UK grime star Skepta, eventually becoming his manager. Her deep understanding of youth culture and global influence informed the creation of Homecoming—a three-day annual festival in Lagos that has grown into a powerful cultural force, spotlighting Nigerian creativity while attracting international collaborators.
Beyond the festival, Ladoja launched Metallic Inc in 2017 as a global culture studio designed to connect brands with creative talent. Since its inception, the agency has distributed more than £150,000 in grants to creatives working across fashion, music and film, and has recently expanded its footprint with the opening of a permanent retail space.
Her contributions have not gone unnoticed. Ladoja was named a Rising Star by Music Week in 2017 and later received the Entrepreneur Award in 2021. In 2018, she was honoured with an MBE for her services to the music industry, further cementing her status as a key figure shaping contemporary culture.
At the centre of the latest collaboration is a reimagining of the iconic Nike Air Max Plus. While the silhouette has undergone numerous reinterpretations over the years, Ladoja’s version stands out for its deeply personal narrative. Drawing inspiration from everyday life in Nigeria, the design incorporates elements that reflect the country’s vibrancy, identity and cultural richness—transforming the sneaker into a tribute to home.
Our Residents, were quick to praise Grace on her entrepreneurial efforts. One commented, "These are cold!!The black pair. I also love how she’s incorporated Africa traditions and spirituality into the sneaker. This is a BIG LOOK." Another added, "I need these yesterday." A third commented, "We love to see it!"
